About 6K Education
6K Education is the parent organization behind two beloved early childhood centers serving Berwyn, Oak Park, and the surrounding Chicago-area communities: Lectura Early Learners and Sunshine Scholars Inc. Both schools are led by Ms. Lorena Kopacz, an Early Childhood Education professional with 14 years of experience in the field.
Ms. Kopacz founded Sunshine Scholars Inc. in early 2023, acquiring a daycare that had already been serving local families for more than 30 years, then renaming and reimagining it for a new generation. Rather than starting from scratch, she built on a foundation of experienced, dedicated staff and an established community relationship – investing in facility upgrades, growing the team, and expanding capacity over the following year.
Just months later, in August 2023, Ms. Kopacz expanded the 6K Education family by acquiring a second school in the same area: Lectura Early Learners, formerly known as Lectura Montessori School. Once again, she took an established program and elevated it – renovating the space, bringing on more qualified educators, and growing capacity from 35 children to an impressive 82 children.
That growth hasn’t slowed down. Today, Sunshine Scholars is licensed for 61 children and holds steady at near-full capacity, while Lectura Early Learners has seen strong, consistent enrollment growth since its capacity expansion, with more families discovering the school every month.
What ties both schools together is a shared philosophy: community first. Ms. Kopacz and her team believe that when staff have a genuinely supportive working environment, children benefit from better, more consistent, more loving care.
